Since I write for kids, as I was researching this issue, I started to wonder what life is like for the children of incarcerated parents. That led me to researching the organization, The Innocence Project, which helps overturn wrongful convictions in the United States.

It got me thinking about wrongful convictions, how often they happen, and why. Back in 2014, I listened to the first season of the hit podcast Serial, which told the story of a young man who’s serving a prison sentence for murder, but many believe could be innocent of the crime.
